We've got drug smugglers coming across the mexican border with hundreds of pounds of marijuana that aren't being prosecuted because the federal government can't afford to prosecute them, but the government can prosecute a mother of 2 who is being kept alive with medical marijuana use?

"medical" marijuana can only be used in the strictest of conditions. Per the courts decision, only when it is the only viable option to keep the patient alive.

Marijuana will never be the "only" viable option to keep a patient alive. PERIOD.

In my 15 years of medical practice I have never seen, heard of or read about the "life saving benefits" of marijuana.

Does it control pain, sure. So does Morphine. Does it control nausea, sure but so does Reglan. Medical Marijuana is a joke, it's fundamental chemistry does not make it a good medication and anyone with more than a high school diploma knows this. Stop looking for reasons to make it legal.

Your first statement is asinine. When smugglers are caught, they are prosecuted and sentenced. Every time.

{edit} for my esteemed colleague 'fedup'... I'm self deluded? Right.

You're comments are based in opinion not fact. You obviously didn't read the question, or don't care about the question and simply needed a starting point to make an unintelligible argument.

The questioner raised the point of the medicinal marijuana so it is directly the point.

You are abjectly wrong in your assertion that the common smugglers are given immunity for testimony. That only happens on the TV.

Your ignorance of fact is evidenced by the following. It is the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution that declares that we have certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

But what you fail to understand or choose to ignore is that the document further says That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among Men.

Your anarchist's view is immature and pathetic. You remind of of guys I went to High School with who at the risk of looking idiotic, embrace anarchy only to be left lost in its chaos.

Oh... and learn to spell. It's difficult to take you seriously when you have the spelling ability of a child.

With all due respect to _gray, your a self-deluded **#!&. The goverment has repeataly give illegals and lawbreakers of all kinds immunity in exchange for testimony. Look at the border patrolman who was prosicuted on the word of illegals who were given immunity and pardon for their testimony.
Wether or not marijuana has medical benifits is beside the point; the point is that I don't need several hundred nannies telling me what I, as a responsible adult, can and can't do in the privacy of my own house. The Constitution says "...the pursuit of happiness...", and no politician, legislation, subtle drug or religious revalation will guarentee it. But I should have the right to pursue it, be it getting high or dressing-up sheep in womens clothing.
We need to band together as a people to get our freeedom back from the politicians- throw the bastards OUT!!

Follow the money, see who gets what. If someone influential isn't getting a cut of the money from drug trafficking then, at the very least, our countrymen are dumber than I thought.
