I'm a senior (in american terms) and I basically have no direction. Its affecting my grade because I don't see the point if I know for certain my future doesn't have physics in it, if you get the point.
when people say have dreams, my recurring dream of a fulfilled life is to die from a gun, saving someone else.
How do I explain that to people without seeming somehow psychotic?
I'm just going blank whenever people ask me, especially my parents, what do you want to do when you leave school?
"Stick with your passions" is the funniest reactions I get, I have no passion per se; no instruments or sports, not a genius, not an artist, not an anything really.
I'm just wondering if I should just get a goal and stick to it, or ...if anyone has anything else?

Okay, based on your recurring dream, I think you should look into anything in the field of public service.
Police Officer
Any service organization such as the Red Cross, United Way, Fire fighting, etc.
You may not feel you have goals for yourself in your personal life, but I think you want to make a difference in the lives of other people.
That shows that you are not a selfish person, that you want to give more than receive.
And I don't think that is psychotic. It merely means you want your life to be worth something besides getting and taking.
Physics may not be your future, but it is a stepstone in completing your education. Just think of it as something you have to do, like scrubbing the toilet.
While you are still in school, try volunteering. The Red Cross, United Way, churches, homeless shelters, many community organizations. Go see what you can give, and when you find something that satifies the need inside you, stick with it, develop it and go with it.

You're in the same boat as millions of others so you're not alone. You'll find most of those in the underclass ... long term beneficiaries ... living from beer to beer, joint to joint, day to day. Most dont have goals or incentive to achieve. (this is what disturbs your parents ... the thought of you becoming like this)
You sound like a good candidate for the army, with your dreams of dieing from a gun saving someone and all. What more honorable death can you get defending your country. Who knows, the army may just make a man out of you. If you could just add to your thoughts "i must survive" you could make one of the best soldiers and heroes your country has ever produced and at the same time find your meaning to life.

It's not unusual to not have goals. Life is tough at the point you're at.
BUT... don't use that as an excuse not to learn. It's more of a reason to learn. Open your mind. Learn as much as you can now. New experiences may spark an interest in something. Or perhaps down the road.
Knowledge is power. Maybe you don't need it (or want it) now. But someday you will. And you don't want to regret passing it up.
Don't get a "goal" just because people pressure you too. It will only make you miserable.

Do I have anything else? No. I don't know you. You have some grandiose thoughts though with the gun and sacrificing yourself. That is probably because you are young. You could use a career counselor. They could give you a set of aptitude tests and find out not only what you are able to do but what you would enjoy doing. You are just uninspired. Find some good career counseling before you marry some poor b***** and start having kids!! (Sorry, Babe, but that's not an option.)

You don't have to plan out your whole life right now. If you aren't feeling a life passion, then it would be tedious and pointless anyway.
You know for certain that your future doesn't have physics in it, but doing your best in physics certainly couldn't hurt. Do well in all your classes, because even if they aren't directly related to what you end up doing, there are transferable skills that will help you. And also being well-versed in a variety of topics will make you an interesting person. Maybe that can be your goal for now. Goals can change. Don't feel like you are condemning yourself to something. In fact, don't even reason in terms of "goals". It makes life sound like office work or something. Once you find something you like, then it'll be much easier to live your life without really even viewing things as "goals". THings just sort of happen once you like something. So I guess my suggestion for you is to just be open to things you might like. Don't make a big deal out of it. Don't view it as work or anything. Just keep your eyes open. If you find you like something--anything--you may come to find that you like other things related to it.

It is not a must that every one should have goal in his life, but having one certainly gives you a direction ,will and objective .This helps one in gaining in self confidence, improved will power and enthusiasm to try and achieve one's objective. It is good thing to dedicate one's life for the sake of others. Therefore, you can try to be a doctor in Armed Forces where you will be able to save the lives of the people fighting for we all .

Goals are strange things. It's been my goal to do the laundry for 3 days. I'm on my last pair of socks.
The moral; for you to say that could mean that you are either content with your life or complacent. It takes time to find what we want from life, though sometimes what we need doesn't show itself too often either. The key is to prepare... I've got no socks for tomorrow.
