Why not country or rock?
Where I have to live, I hear tons of racist isht "music" every day and it angers me in wanting to hurt whoever makes it.
Not all rap or hip-hop is degrading or talking about wanting to shoot people!

(I could name songs all day that you'd need to have listened to every single one before anyone could become a judge for banning a "type" of music.)
How can anyone ever define music as a specific genre anyway???
Linkin Park SOUNDS like rock but also SOUNDS like hip-hop or rap at times.
***I strongly advise you to listen to these songs listed, especially Talib Kweli.
You are really good at stereotyping genres of music...AND over-generalizing.
What you said is exactly the same as someone else saying, "Let's be real, COUNTRY does not inspire anything anymore except for oppressing non-whites, and sounding stupid."

America, as a country would not be better without rap, because the rap industry is making more money than classic music or rock music. I thing rap is a parody to the real violence, and people should know how to read between the lines, rap is sarcastic, not violent.

In the past, Rap was the voice of the underdog, about the rise from poverty and the issues that plagued Black America. True that over time, it it mostly feels like a commercial for material things. However, somewhere in their, amongst all the hustle and anger - 'A poet needs the pain'. The message may be lost, but not truly. She's there somewhere, surviving as we are; Hip-Hop is still with us.

Every generation has a music breakthrough where the previous generation finds it disturbing. Elvis and the Beatles broke out when big bands were still in style, and that, from what my father says, gave my grandmother all of her gray hair.
Iron Maiden and Judas Priest moved into the scene, and my father's hair turned gray from what I listened to. (KISS especially, with the makeup and antics. Devil Worship!!)
I started turning gray when my kids started listening to the Back Street Boys and Britney Spears. (ACK)
Each generation of music has to offer something more ghastly and shocking it seems. Rap will fade to some new fangdangled fad I suppose. It'll be odd in the future to tune into a radio station that offers classic rap.

I don't think rap music is the cause for the decay of morality in this country. It is human nature period. Take a look at history and the Romans more specifically. That society was full of decay and immoral behavior. There was no rap then. No matter what is going on, human are destined to fail regardless. Music may help, but is not the root.

No it won't. The degradation of women and hustling has existed long before rap music ever did. Huamn nature is the problem.

Every country would be better off without ANY music that promotes a selfish or violent attitude. If rap music in general fits this description, then the answer is yes, not just America but everywhere would be better off without it!
