Throughout the world there are people who are percived as second-class citizens or as below the barrow. This can be be from drunks on buses, to people who use expletive language. Is this a sign of a lack of common decency, which could be allied to the popular press for promoting this, or is this behaviour acceptable?

The popular press promotes indecency?? You mean television and movies, rather than news, I assume?

I think the media is coarsening our culture. Of course, the fact that so many parents dump their kids in day care very early, so they are raised by no one and consuming all kinds of garbage. My kids don't watch crude and coarse things.

They need the populace to be very very very distracted in order to pull that off. So, you are treated to Paris Hilton, rather than given enough facts to understand our treasury is being drained by a lying, thieving, torturing, mass murdering gangster in the white house.

Come to think of it, while our nation is torturing to death innocent people and destroying an ancient land and militarily backing the state which has littered its neighbor with hundreds of thousands of cluster bombs, it's hard to get outraged over people cursing in public...

Society has lost a lot of decency. The media and the press have capitalized on the public's so called "need to know" attitude. Our dependence on instant entertainment has made the media the way it is, so really it is both who are at fault.

As a parent, I am teaching my kids how to entertain themselves in ways other than t.v. or sensational media. I am considered a "mean mother" because our t.v. is only on for 2 hours a day. I monitor the programs, music, video games and Internet usage. No on can rely on society to bring up kids, only parents can do that.

Hell yeah. Thanks to Hollywood reinventing reality, MTV promoting perversion, and the mass media hypnotizing the mass...society has lost its sense of decency
