Figure out what the absolute minimum amount is that you will need to get by for a week, gas, food, etc., then carry twenty dollars over that amount with you. The rest, leave in the bank and leave your ATM card hidden in your drawer. When you find something you like, ask yourself if you can live without it. Chances are the answer will be yes. If it is, walk away. We as a society seem to be obsessed with the possession of so much stuff that we forget that we can actually live quite happily without whatever it is that caught our eye in the first place. Think of all the things you do have; do you use them on a regular basis? Or do they just end up collecting dust somewhere because you've forgotten you had it in the first place?

I dont carry any cash, at all. Just my Debit Card linked to my Checking, for this reason:
With cash, assume your purchase is $39.11 - You, naturally, hand the teller two $20's, right? Well, what ends up happening to that 89 cents? Bottom of the purse? In a pocket?
With a debit card, no matter how big, or small the purchase: All of those little remainders (89 cents in this case) stay in the bank as part of your overall principle, instead of on the floor of your car.
After a few months, all of those little remainders end up adding up to an extra $30 or $40 bucks in the bank.

Just don't spend it. Sell stuff on amazon or ebay and you can get more cash. And put your cash in the bank and while you keep adding up, the bank will give you some money per month too.

One of the easiest ways to spend less is to learn to cook.
I used to spend an average of $6 per meal eating out, (McD's, BK, Denny's) and maybe cook mac & cheese once a week for myself.
that was 2-3 meals a day at $6 apiece, about $105 per week which turns out to be about $5300 per year. after 2 years, I could have bought 2 used cars!!!
