I actually read the 'Community Guidelines'... I know who hasn't.. well.. Asking: "What Time Is It" is listed as an example of chatting... We're talking about users from a million time zones here.. and this question is considered 'chatting'.. !!!

(So is it morning or afternoon where you live right now..?)

Chatting? No way. So, how are you Robin? So nice to see you here at 9:55 in the morning Mountain time. How's life treating you? Me? Well, I'm doing well. I've got to start these classes on Saturday morning that I'm not really looking forward to. They're "Community Emergency Response Team" classes or CERT for short. I'm actually looking forward to the classes just not the time involved. 9 a.m. every Saturday morning from 9-12 for eight weeks. So, no sleeping in for me. Well, gotta run. It's been nice chatting...uh...I mean properly responding to your sincere posting of informational materials this a.m.

Top 'o the mornin' to ya!

There is such a fine line between answering a question and chatting, since when I answer this, I am directing the answer to you, even though everyone else can read it.

The question what time is where you are is a question that will elicit answers from people directing the answer specifically at you. But along with a kazillion other people too, so I really don't know what the criteria is they base their judgment on.

The very nature of this medium produces answers of a personal nature most of the time, because if the question is a serious one and each of us answer in our "serious" mode, then again, it is much like chatting. So where is the beef?

And it is morning in Illinois. Actually, about 7:20 a. m.

I'm somewhat in agreement with you. But there should be guidelines as there are all so many stupid questions posted here. But ONLY as an example. As you said, What time is it? YES I read your question and your reasoning. BUT you know the time where you are, so why do you need to know what the time is anywhere else. So sometimes I can see a need for having these restrictions but at times I also see too many stupid questions. And NO, I am not the exception. I have posted a few question and so many answer I honestly forget how many. BUT some have been kind of lame. Hey I rambled on enough, Have a GREAT DAY!!!!!!. OH by the way, it is 7:35AM Acushnet, MA. USA

I'm afraid you are missing the Big Y!A Picture, my friend (Sssshhhhhh, technically speaking I should NOT be calling you "my friend" as that's considered chatting). The point of this site is NOT to provide a FREE forum for the users, but ultimately to create yet another milieu for Yahoo to line up its pockets with even more dough. Obviously Y!A can attract more Advertising Dollars and "Goofy 23 Sponsors" if they claim they have a "serious" site with over a zillions Q&A's. Chatting among users (i.e. questions they regard as possessing low commercial value) ain't gonna help them in their eternal quest for money and influence. The Cast Society competion among the "Apparent Untouchable Y!A Citizens" Vs. the "ORANGE" (lol) Top Contributors, on the other hand, just might. ... As they say: Follow the trail of money and interest and you shall have ALL your answers. Great Question, BTW.

The argument they have for chatting being a violation is that they have "chat rooms" if you want to chat...lol...I know, I know.
There are some questions that from my point of view shouldn't be considered chatting but we need to remember...we are mere mortals here, the Y Gods know why things are as they are.

It is 11:00 a.m. here.

It's morning where I live and the fact that "chatting" is a violation is stupid. I guess I should read the guidlelines too but maybe I'll be violated just for reading them :P

A lot of the qwestions they call "chatting" would be legitimate polls and/or surveys. The Yahoos are stupid about those things.

(ps It is morning now)
