There are 8 levels of attainment which children are able to achieve. The government expect the majority/average of Year 2 children to achieve Level 2, Year 6 to achieve Level 4, Year 10 to achieve Level 6 etc. Each level is divided into a,b,c; 'c' being the first sub-level reached and 'a' being the highest sub-level before attaining the next complete level. For instance, a Year 6 child may start the year achieving Level 4b and go through to Level 4a before finally attaining Level 5c.
