Our current understanding of how the physical brain creates our mind should in my opinion be sufficient to reject the idea that our personality can exist in a non-physical form.
It is true, and will probably always be true, that science does not understand everything about how our brain/mind works. It is, for example, a total mystery how the basic functionality of the brain hardware creates a conscious mind. In fact, it is pretty much a mystery what a conscious mind is.
Thus, in the same way that theists can push an increasingly elusive God into the gaps that still exist in our understanding of the physical universe, supernaturalists can try to make a soul or spirit fit into the gaps in our current knowledge about the brain. I argued in my previous article about this subject that since an appeal to the supernatural is unnecessary for understanding the mind, it does not really explain anything, and since we reject these kind of pseudo-explanations in other situations in life, we should also reject it here.
The belief in a soul (or spirit) is closely tied to belief in human immortality. We have always observed that the human body is destroyed by natural processes after death. For our conscious self to survive physical death, we would need to have some component that is not material, and that survives death, bringing our personality, thoughts and memories into some trancendental existence. The ancient Egyptians used embalment to try to preserve the body for the afterlife. Most contemporary religions who espouse an afterlife doctrine argues that since we have a soul (or spirit), we don't need our bodies. We can still somehow live on.

Yes, we do hear about these things. Sometimes generally, sometimes in great detail. "Is it real" is a totally different question than "why is it so common all over the world".
The Indians have visions. Perhaps it is a matter of the senses. We can smell an apple pie upon entering a room but it may just be a candle. We can taste cheese when it is actually artifically made. etc., so perhaps "is it real" is realative to the experience.
Your second question is probably best answered by including the fact that man seems to not only want to know stuff, but needs to know. Even if it requires a made up answer. If it satisfies, then that's the answer.

What is supernatural? Something that we do not understand is supernatural. Science explains what is understood. Then we start believing all other things are either acts of god or ghosts! This is the easiest way to shut the mouths and then minds of several people. If great scientists were to believe in same way and shut their minds, we would not have so much scientific knowledge. We can only say there is a lot that we do not understand.
In your list of supernaturals, you missed God. God is product of positive thinking and ghost is product of negative thinking. Should we bundle everything that we do not understand as supernatural?
Now decide whether there is supernatural or not.

No there is nothing 'super' natural. If it happens, it's natural.
Many things are not yet explained, and it is these which get exaggerated in the re-telling. Crop circles, for instance, have an amazing array of theories as to their origin, but nothing feasible. We don't know yet, that's all.
Anyway, how boring would life be if everything was explained? We'd all be up the wall with the fundamentalists!

I remember seeing 'ghosts' as a young child. My sightings helped my mother recover from an unexplained illness. After the age of about 8 years old I stopped 'seeing'.
I don't know if it was supernatural or " trompe l'oeil " , but I am grateful that it seemed to help my Mom.

well i think there is something out there im not quite sure if its ghost and aliens but if you think about and do your research like stuff about the inka and easter island you'll belive there is some kind of super natural force and the more studies they do on space there always finding more planets with water and stuff like ours so i believe there could possibly be a planet simular to ours with some type of life we just havent found them yet maybe they have found us and that explains all these super natural happenings.

There was a movie made recently about just one form of the supernatural. It was called 'White Noise,' with the first parts of the movie being a bit credible, and the latter parts of it being "pure Hollywood." This movie focused on something called 'EVP.' You might do a Google search on 'EVP.' It might just spark your interest-!

to some people. I think its all in our heads, really. No one has actually seen it. Some say they've "seen" it at night, but I think its just a trick of the eye.

If its supernatural then it hasn't been scientifically proven. Otherwise it wouldn't be so super
