A friend recently got a new card and it stated in the letter that came with it....DO NOT LAMINATE.....Its against the law.
This is only to protect the card....They ought to give us better cards, not paper....We keep our put away...So as not to ruin them after years...Anyone know this? Just curious. Thanks

Its to do with the texture, thickness, and security markings. If it is illegal - its no different then taking a tag off your mattress you purchase. All threats no action !

Similar to our new money.

I laminated my sons, before I read this. But I don't know why they don't want us to. Like you said they give us paper and they don't last long if you carry them in your purse or wallet.
I will keep checking back to see why its against the law. But its a stupid law. Have a nice day!

Becuse the card has certin features which are not visible to the naked eye, but has embedded features that reveals your correct identity to the machine.Lamination will insulate it. However i am not aware of any law to this effect

If the cards are allowed to be laminated it makes it more difficult to detect forgeries or illegal alterations.

first of all, you are not recommended to carry the card with you. do what i do and keep it in a safe and leave it in a safe place in the house. if your wallet gets stolen, so does your identity
