I was also considering removing the plastic edges as they are worn and discoloured. I have been told to leave them on, but i could alwaysd keep them safe until i sold the car. my husband said "It's up to you luv!"

If you plan on keeping it for a long time I wouldn't worry about it. If you do decide to change the color, have it done right, all door jambs, inside of hood and at least the top edge of the fender under the hood. have all the lights, grill, trim, etc. removed to paint under them. Removal is better than masking in my opinion. I wouldn't worry about the fire wall and inner fenders. Allot of work and $ to change those areas. As far as removing the ugly plastic trim edges you might possibly have holes left behind in the fenders, doors, rockers, and quarter panels. If you plan to resell private sale take detailed pictures from all kinds of angles etc. before the paint job to show the reason for repaint was preference of color not to hide damage.

A Purple Rav4. I would want to change the color too. It is quite possible that it may lower the resale value. When people know that a car has been repainted, the general belief is that it was to cover damage or painted after an accident. Since they were unaware of the extent of the possible damage, they want to mentally deduct a bit off the price. A color change may be a further reduction because of various reasons; the new color may not be a common Rav4 color, the new color may differ from the color combinations offered for that model, or some areas may still show the original color.
I can't tell you how much the value will drop but if you are keeping it for several years, it won't make much difference in the future. Changing the color of a newer Rav4 and selling it soon will bring questions. Happy trails..

I'd say it would improve the look and be easy to sell when the time comes.
Keep the plastics just in case.

Purple? Any colour would improve its value, but not more than what it will cost to paint it
