Hate stems from hurt. When somebody has been hurt by a person from a particular race or sex or country or religion, a person develops a hatred for that entire community.

Like most Arabs hate Israelis and Jews or most Iraqis hate Americans and so on. People blame the wrongdoings of one person on an entire community or nation, believing something is drastically wrong in their culture. Men who hate woman have usually been hurt by one in some form of relationship and women who hate men have also experienced such hurt.

Having some antipathy towards a community is usually common in a multi-cultural society because we may not agree with some of their customs, traditions or way of life etc. But such antipathy developing into hatred is bad. It was such hatred that caused the Holocast.

Oh come ON! Of course it's wrong to generalize people, but don't sit back like, "Why do humans hate? I am just a peaceful, naive space person who wants to know how people who are not me can be so hateful." Everybody generalizes, and so do you. We learn to survive by associating one instance with all similar ones. To use the tired old stove example, when you're a kid and you burn your hand on a hot stove, you learn not to put your hand on hot stoves. You don't come up to a hot stove after that and decide to give it a chance because you want to judge each stove as an individual. It's instinct. Indeed, it's a problem when it's applied to other human beings, and we all need to work on it. But let's not stand back and play dumb. If you have really tricked yourself into believing that you are not one of those terrible people who generalizes, then you are more dangerous than they are. Think hard about it. You surely have some biases deep down in that tender little heart of yours.

Because generalisation takes a lot less thought than being picky.... and lets face it, most people are lazy.

As for me... how about this for a sweeping statement of hatred: I hate people full stop.
I am a misanthrope, and proud of it.

There are some individuals that I am more tolerant of, but those are the exceptions to the rule. Generally speaking I loathe humanity (including myself).... Its just a bunch of hypocritical, filthy meatbags...

I think papars is very wise.

We are bred to feel a certain way towards certain people; prejudice , fear etc. Whether it is their social status or their nationality.

We all come from different cultural background and have different moral judgments in place.

I think some of the answers written are absorb but that's because of my background. When we are become a melting pot of cultures, colours (UK spelling) etc. it might change.

I think it's a shame but in society we differentiate between us and those different to us and we often use them as a scapegoat too.

It's all to do with the concept of the Super Ego.

Then again there are those that pretend to be shocked that there are bigots in the world so that they can come off sounding morally superior. People are truly amazing!

I don't necesarrily hate the person. I just hate their skin color, which leads me to hating them, or their poor/broken English. If you can't speak it right, dont' speak it all all.

I accidentally got someone fired yesterday, and though they deserved it, I felt really really bad. I later realized it was a foreign poor English speaking guy and was then content with my actions leading to his being fired. *shrug* - stupid racists....
