Though it is sort of a ballad, and it is oldies, the best description would simply be pop rock. It's got a nice rock beat to it (I could go as far to say it's some hard rock in the middle when Paul yells out some lyrics), and is about as pop as any other Beatles song can be.
Pop rock. That's the genre that defies time or place for this timeless gem of a song.

Beatles
Oh! Darling, please believe me
I'll never do you no harm
Believe me when I tell you
I'll never do you no harm
Oh! Darling, if you leave me
I'll never make it alone
Believe me when I beg you
Don't ever leave me alone
(chorus)
When you told me you didn't need me anymore
Well you know I nearly broke down and cried
When you told me you didn't need me anymore
Well you know I nearly broke down and died
Oh! Darling, if you leave me
I'll never make it alone
Believe me when I tell you
I'll never do you no harm
(repeat chorus)
Oh! Darling, please believe me
I'll never let you down
Believe me when I tell you
I'll never do you no harm
