Let us first admit that it will not be a Republican. They have simply nobody to offer whose stature can overcome the popular deficit bestowed on him by the Bush administration. McCain would probably do the best, but even he is tainted by his acquiescence to the excesses of the Bush league.

Who else have they got? Giuliani? Don't make me laugh! The man is a proven two timer and spousal abuser whose lack of class extended to bringing his mistress home and boffing her where his kids could hear. Nothing he can offer will overcome his lack of character.

That leaves the Democrats, whose primaries will pick the next president, as long as they don't go too crazy.

Joe Biden is a strong candidate, but lacks charisma. He could do the job, but won't get the chance. Obama is simply not experienced enough. He is pretty arrogant to think himself capable now, and it makes you wonder if he is as smart as the say he is.

Al Gore would have a huge shot, better than Kerry, because of his strong environmental ties. Having won the Presidency once, he may have had enough, but if he wants it he can make a credible run. Like Kerry, Edwards is going nowhere.

This leaves Hillary Clinton. She has experience. She has style. She has recognition factor. Definitely the front runner, and no Republican will be able to face her except, possibly, McClain.

The GOP and FOX news will no doubt bring up Whitewater and all the other debunked stories. Their hatred of the Clintons will not be restrained, and the dirtiest campaign ever fought will occur.

Attack ads won't work, though. I suspect that Senator Clinton has a mountain of sympathy with all of us who feel her private life was invaded ruthlessly for crass political reasons, and that her persecutors need to be taught a lesson in manners.

In short, the people of the United States know how to treat a lady, and will give the GOP a lesson in deportment.

It's early, but I give Clinton about three to one. Personally, I could care less about her politics. The way the neocons go after her makes me hope that she feeds them a huge shitburger in 2008.
