The question is so wrong and so reasonable at the same time. First if it was your son's pet you should show a tad of respect. As for feeding it to your dog, you could though one shouldn't in all honesty add fresh meat to a domesticated dog's diet.

For one, adding new foods to an animal's diet suddenly tends to play on their digestive track (Typically only a minor issue). Unless you are a vet yourself and know the rough nutritional value from the rabbit's meat, you are upscaling the *so called* balance of nutrition and vitamins in the dog food.

I'm rambling... sorry. I guess I would say no due to the fact that it was your sons pet, and it seems like your just trying to find a cheap way to get rid of the body. If you tend to cook the meat you give your dog, and know the dog's nutritional balance very well then I'd say let your son decide.

There are some zoonoses that could be passed on from your rabbit to your dog. However, if it died of old age then it should not cause your dog any problems. I wouldn't feed it all in one go though. There was an article in a farming magazine a while back about someone who was overrun with rabbits. They shot them, took off the legs and froze them for their own use, and gave two rabbits a day to each of their dogs. Apparently their dogs had 'never been healthier'.

However, I think your son's feelings have to be paramount in this decision. If I was your son then I know I would want my bunny to buried.

Unless you know exactly what caused the rabbit's death I would say no. It could be harboring a contagious disease. Also, don't you think that it would be a bit traumatic for your son to see you feeding his beloved pet to another animal? And what is an Alsatian by the way??

Not unless you want to teach the dog it can eat rabbits -- especially rabbits living in your house. Depending upon the age of your son, you might consider having a burial ceremony for the rabbit, perhaps in your back yard. Even though it was an animal rather than a person, your son might have loved that rabbit. It was part of your household and family and should be treated as such.

You should probably ask your son first if it is his rabbit. I find it hard to believe he'd give you permission though! If he was that cold-hearted why give it to the dog? You might as well skin and bone it and cook it yourself for Sunday dinner (!!!). Waste not, want not! It depends how sentimental you are about such things.

I could NEVER do this to a beloved family pet. Let the poor thing rest in peace not pieces!

as a rabbit breeder, I wouldnt feed it to any other animal. you dont know why it died or if what it had is contageous. if it was just old age, it would probably be fine if it were within minutes but i know if it was from other reasons you might not want to.. unless you are an expert, give your son the respect he and the rabbit deserves and burry it in th back yard. its a great learning experience.

No you can not. Its one thing, buying ur dog rabbit dog food but to let it eat ur sons pet is just very wrong. I seriously hope u are joking. Go and bury the rabbit and show ur son how u respect his pet.
What kind of parent are u?

Why not bury it in the garden? Did a good deep hole approx 3ft. Your daughter could help and make a proper burial for it. Make a little cross and say a prayer for it. Your daughter can then visit it. I have 3 cats, a dog, lots of little furry things, a bird and a snake buried in my garden. The cats have a plaque too. It may sound sad but I talk to my dog when in the garden. It helps me get over her passing.

Ewe Ewe Ewe.

I guess technically speaking, yes you could. I think however your son would be traumatised for life, and the psychiatrist bills would cost a fortune.
I think kids prefer their pets to get a decent burial in the garden!
