We just bought a new house with boiler heat, neither of us know a thing about boiler heat. So Here's the situation-

Issue #1-

House gets very hot even if we turn all thermostats all the way down as far as they will go, we have 4 thermostats, 2 up & 2 down.

Issue #2-

The weather is starting to break here in Michigan, I turned the switch (the one that looks like a light switch) off at the boiler the other day. Well I wake up freezing this morning, the temp dropped as I slept, so I go to the lower level of the house and hit the switch thinking nothing of it and then realize my feet are wet so I look down and see water on the floor coming from the boiler. What did I do wrong? Will this require a service call? And, for the near future, is there anything I need to know for shutting down a boiler for the season? All help would be greatly appreciated.

PS

Every since I turned the boiler back on this morning, it's making noises it never made before.

Your zone valves are leaking through or not closing at all(overheating). Where is the water coming from?Is it the seal in the circulating pump? There are a number of things to check but the water leakage should be the first priority.

Many boilers will maintain a certain water temp in the boiler even if there is no call for heat from the thermostats. That heat will naturally travel up into the basebords, making you think the heat is on. Especially during spring warm ups. The water on the floor thing is a problem and you should call a tech to check out that problem. They could also instruct you on the proper operation of your particular boiler. Probably be well worth the service call.
