Hi, I'm going to take a stab at this and see if I can figure out what it is you need to know. Yes kerosene lamps can be very dangerous if not properly used and watched. The fuel, contains Petroleum Distillates-Naphtha,and is highly flammable. But with the proper maintenance of the lamps, which would include, the correct wicks or cartridges, as specified by the manufacturer, a good quality kerosene fuel and of course supervision, they can be quite beautiful and enjoyable. If you have some lamps but are in need of wicks, try,"Aladdin".They are ,as far as I know ,the main manufacturer of oil and gas lamps. Try getting in touch with an "Ace"Hardware,True Value,Handy-Dan(Don't know if they still exist). Also Orchard Supply might deal with the "Aladdin Lamp Co." Aladdin won't deal directly with the public. They have such a large shipping price,it's difficult for even retailers to make a minimum shipment for lamps. That's the reason you don't see many true Aladdin oil lamps around. Or their wicks! You might try them on the Internet also. Now,if your question was about how long you can keep the fuel inside,I think a couple of years. Mine have had the fuel inside for at least that long ,and are still working fine.Get the non-smoking oil next time you go to buy some. I just thought of trying a lamps store too! I surely hope I've helped you with something on the matter you had on your mind.Good Luck,Stay Brite too!Bye

Kerosene lamps can be unsafe if you don't clean them regularly. About every two months you need to look and see if the wick has any white ash on it or a wick that is burning very low. If the wick is low check inside the oil pot and see if there is a lot of wick that you can push up, if not, then it's time to buy a wick. Take a damp paper towel and wipe the white ash off of the wick.. Also check the covers for dust, they can be washed with dish liquid in your sink and hand dry. If you have small children or elderly people put them up on a high place in your home and be sure to keep your kerosene oil bottle stored in a brown paper bag, in a dark and cool place. Keep in mind if you have children or elderly people in your home, personally I would not keep kerosene in the lamps until I needed to use them.
