A kilobit per second (kbit/s or kbps or kBaud) is a unit of data transfer rate equal to 1,000 bits per second. It is sometimes mistakenly thought to mean 1,024 bits per second, using the binary meaning of the kilo- prefix, though this is incorrect.

kbps = Kilo bits per second

KBPS = Kilo Bytes per second

1 Byte = 8 bits

if your broadband connection speed is 256 kbps, it means it is 256 / 8 = 32 KBPS.

What i don't understand though is how come this question is entered in "Philosophy" category?

One kilobit per second (Kbps) equals 1000 bits per second (bps). Kbps is also written as “kbps” that carries the same meaning.

in Computer terminology the speed with which a processor works or Your computer responds to your needs etc is expressed in GIGABYTES PER SECOND (Processor),and in MBPS (Megabytes per second(Internet) and KILOBYTES PER SECOND your computer working speed speed (while uploading a file or photo or downloading a file)

So the Kbps Kilo bytes Per Second represents the speed .

kilo bytes per second. It's generally denotes the speed of some network where 1 byte =8bits.

if you are mentioning kbps in biotechnology means it is 'kilo base pair'.
one kbp=1000 base pairs of dna
in simpler terms,it can be compared to 1 kg=1000 grams.
here,1 gm can be compared to 1 nucleotide pair(eg:a=t base pair).
so,1000 bps constitute 1 kbp.

In the U.S., Kbps stands for kilobits per second (thousands of bits per second) and is a measure of bandwidth (the amount of data that can flow in a given time) on a data transmission medium. Higher bandwidths are more conveniently expressed in megabits per second (Mbps, or millions of bits per second) and in gigabits per second (Gbps, or billions of bits per second).
