I am appalled that you think U2 can be compared with REM!!!
REM are much better, regardless of which decade.
U2 are totally s-h-i-t-e compared with the greatness of Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Peter Buck and Bill Berry.
Shame on you for even suggesting that U2 come close!

Wow...U2 is my all-time favorite band but R.E.M. is definitely up there!
I feel like R.E.M. was at its best in the early 90s. "Out of Time" and "Automatic for the People" are two of my favorite albums ever and they're both masterpieces in my opinion. I do also have "Around the Sun" and while there are a few great songs on it (LOVE "The Outsiders" and "Final Straw") I don't feel like it has the same magic and some of their earlier stuff.
Now, U2, on the other hand...Maybe I'm incredibly biased here, being that I've been a die hard fan for 10 years, but nobody even compares to them. They successfully reinvent themselves with each new album and take their music to a different level. They've been relevant longer than I've been on this planet. I just love them. Their music is sort of like my religion.
So, yeah, U2 wins!

i dont really like either but i prefered 80's U2 and 90's R.E.M but i do like the stuff U2 have been coming out with recently! xx

ummm right---all I have to say is Joshua Tree 80s (way better than Document) and Achtung Baby 90s was way better than Automatic for the People. Don't get me wrong I love REM (pre-Monster of course), but head to head REM cannot compare to U2. I wish that REM would have not become so commercial with the Monster and Post-Monster albums. I really miss the old REM.

90's = eh. R.E.M. a little trippy but I liked it.
