Mohair is a very delicate fabric. If you treasure it, then leave it to the experts - drycleaners. If you are willing to risk ruining it, and waste heaps of time and stress, certainly making go out of shape then hand wash if you must, with neutral wool soap, and 3 cold rinses. take great care in handling it and squeeze out as much moisture carefully, wrap in a towel then lay it flat on netting.

Washing Mohair

Mohair is both delicate yet durable. Like most luxury fibres, Mohair requires careful handling, but when treated in the correct way it will last for a very long time, outliving many other garments and WONT ITCH :).

Use a small brush to groom knitted Mohair garments. It is important that Mohair is treated with care - gentle coaxing rather than firm strokes being advisable to ease out tangles and create the lovely fluffiness for which Mohair is renowned.

When washing Mohair, tepid water and a mild 'handwashing' detergent bring the best results. Any dirt should be gently squeezed out - never pull or wring. After rinsing in cool water, the garment should be laid flat to dry on a towel. It is possible to tumble dry, provided the Mohair garment is placed inside a pillow slip and a very gentle, slow programme is used. Dry cleaning is recommended - especially if the garment has interlinings or shoulder pads.

The best thing to do is to follow the care label exactly. If it says dry clean only, you are taking a risk washing mohair, which shrinks easily.

By hand! Get some of that posh liquid from the supermarket, they do an almond one & a jojoba one. Or get some Ecover wool wash. Use a teaspoon in a bowl of warm water and gently squeeze through. Rinse, squeeze dry then use fabric softener, a tablespoon in a bowl of warm water.

Try using fabric softener in the wash. Put more in the load than recommended.
Hope this helps.
