Hi, I am a team member of a 30 member team. I alone work in a different city and other team members, including my boss work in another city. i want to know:
how to increase my visibility and participation in team activities being in a different city. (conference calls are not really helping, because when there is any team meeting, whole of the other team is on the other side suddenly discusses something, laughs and argues which i am no able to follow over the phone. i couldnt ask repeatedly what they were discussing abt)

I am getting feedback that i am not in sink with the team. How can i handle this? Please help.

Thanks!

This is one of the new realities in today's virtual team environment. I also work remotely from my management team, although I'm in the same city, just on the other side of town. I still can go in every once in a while, but I can completely understand your situation.

I'd suggest a few options for you to consider:
- talk to a few other team members one on one via phone or instant message. Keep it casual and try to find common interests. It will help them remember you. Over time, ask them the same question you're asking us - about how better to be included
- try organizing something from where you are. I realize it would be tough to do a teaming thing in person - maybe there are other ideas like a lunch and learn, an online presentation, even online gaming - ?
- talk to your boss as well. If comments are coming through that you're not in synch with the team, bring it up and see what your boss thinks about it. He/she's in another city as well so they might find it hard to connect with the team as well.

Good luck!

Divide the team in small part according to independent modules - and make some delegation of authority i.e. some hierarchy between team.

I am sure due to some competition each senior team member will show some added responsibility.
