My work collegeue is getting married this summer and she is of a higher position than me. She has a different manager to myself. I don't like my work collegeue (the one who is getting married) at all and I am wondering if it is my responsibility to organise a wedding collection for her. I really don't want to do it as I dislike the woman but if I sit back and do nothing will I get into trouble for not organing a collection? Someone told me it should be her managers responsibility to organise the collection. Is this true?

Let the manager get on with it, and if anyone asks why you're not doing it, tell them it's because you hate the sight of the woman ! ! !

I don't know where you work, but at my work, the co-workers that are equal to the employee take care of collections for gifts, parties etc. Managers only deal with retirement, and then the Human Resources person is in charge of getting the funding and planning the party.

Don't make it too complicated for yourself. Why do you think you should do the collection? I see no reason why you should from what you say above.

Leave it up to one of her friends to organise as there should be no office rules on this sort of thing.

A wedding collection is only done out of kindness and it does not matter who by. You are under no obligation to do it or to give money. You wont get into trouble and if somebody starts on you tell them to get stuffed!

Make a real effort to get the collection sorted, try and make it a major success. If its any conciliation in a couple of weeks she will be married and then its all down hill for her.

Unless you are the only 2 people working there, then I would say it shouldn't be your responsibility. Someone who has the same manager, or the manger themself should do it!

NO way
DO what you want to.

it would go against everything you believe in if you collected for a woman you cant stand.

the only way you will get into trouble is if it is stated in your work contract and I am SURE it isnt.

I would suggest that you stop acting like a child and organise the damn collection.

its her wedding, you may not like her, we cant all like everyone we know, but grow up, smile and get the card going round.

you'll feel better for it.

It's not your responsibility to collect squat for this chick regardless of whether or not her manager does it.

Just don't do it. Like you say, you don't like her. Let her boos organize it. There must be someone else who works there who actually likes her who can do it. You shouldn't get in trouble...it wouldn't be part of your job desciption
