There is only one political leader that I have ever really respected and that is Nelson Mandella.
Having been treated so cruelly by the SA white administration for so many years he has displayed incredible powers of forgiveness which saved South Africa from becoming a bloodbath.

Today, there aren't any who qualify as 'best' in the sense I think you mean. Perhaps the best of a bad bunch? Even so, it's hard to find anyone with international stature and gravitas. They're all either lightweights or power mad. I'd change the lot and start again.

Arafat definetely, Poutin and possibly any of the Jew leaders. It might look like contradictory but they all tried to do their best for their nation, maybe they had and have different goals but they tried to achieve them with all their powers even though i do not agree with all of them.
