Boyfriend, i think the actual meaning is a girl's favourite male friend or usually male companion; someone you can rely on and share your feelings with, one whom you can take advise from, someone you respect but not necessary a lover or bedmate as people take it to be nowadays. I don't want us to misunderstand these words for another i.e. boyfriend, lovers or bedmates. they are different words with their meanings differently. I advise you check your dictionary for more clarification.

The meaning can be different in differt cultures.
To me a boy friend is a mle to who I an share the sunshine and the shadows of my life.
IT an honest friend one who will tell you the truth about things.
It is not nescessarily a sexual partner.
IN general it means that you are attached to the other person.
Possibly with the view to become engaged and married.
In the gay world it usually means a sexual partner.

the real meaning is to have someone you care about and cares about you... in this life the only real joy is love... and if you have a boyfriend (girlfriend) you can have that love any day of your life.

Well, the purpose of a boyfriend is to get a fiance`, so then you can later get married, make love, and have kids. :^)

it's for testing the waters to see what you want in a mate..
not necessarily long lasting, just looking for what you like, or what is going to piss you off etc..
