they would be stupid to draft him. in today's NFL you do not need an elite quarterback to succeed or even reach the Superbowl. Russell is unproven anyway and just because he looked good in workouts and has a big arm that does not mean he will be a great QB. developing a stout defense and a strong running game should be their primary focus in the draft and free agency. i could be wrong about Russell but if i were their gm i would pass him up without a second thought.

Almost everyone that responded said Russell would be the better choice. Somethings to keep in mind is during live game play he isn't consistent in his game management decisions. He is a superb athlete. Awesome arm. The raiders are definetly needing to rebuild. To bad Al doesn't want to admit that yet. Quinn may not be as blessed in terms of genetics but he comes from a program that groomed him to play now. Russell will need some definte time to adjust to the game play style. Either way there biggest problem wasn't at quarterback. They had serious problems on the offensive line. Anytime a quarterback gets sacked as many times as they recorded this season you have to realize the line holds a key responsibility. Brooks is aweful. But I think Walters could have done more for the team if the line gave him a little more time than 1 to 2 seconds. Even average lines hold for a min. of 3 seconds consistentlty. There defense looked pretty decent. Time will tell.

The Raiders needs a QB, there are only two QBs in this draft that will ever make an impact on the NFL, Quinn and Russell, both of which will be drafted in the top 10. Thus the Raiders must use their first pick on a QB and fill the other needs with the picks
As the only one here (probably) who was in attendance at LSU's pro day I can tell you that there is no way Brady Quinn comes close in comparison to JaMarcus's QB abilities.
First, I've never seen an arm that can throw as far as his including current and former college and NFL players.
Second, He throws the ball with the same velocity as a young Brett Favre.
Third, his footwork is better than Quinn's "happy feet." This is a major downside to Quinn.
Fourth, He dropped 9 pounds in two weeks. If anything that shows pure determination and will to succeed.
Finally JaMarcus Russell has more natural ability and potential than any other player in the draft. Whether he reaches the max of this will depend on coaching.

JaMarcus Russel, QB, LSU For the poster who calls Russell "a waste of time", what recreation have been you staring at whilst Russell outplayed the overhyped Brady Quinn interior the Sugar Bowl? Russell placed up astounding numbers in a RUN oriented OFFENSE! If Les Miles woulda had the stones to open his offense up final season, Russell might have been the clean decrease #a million %. all alongside. you're saying Russell is going to be the subsequent Maurice Clarett, in line with what? He has no character matters. Clarett became a head case in the previous he even went professional. As for Quinn, he's gonna be the subsequent Rick Mirer, and overhyped QB from Notre Dame who'll be no longer something extra effective than a glorified backup. Russell is 6-6 250 and can throw the ball 60 yards with the flick of his wrist. countless NFL scouts have stated that he has the suited arm interior the NFL..and he's no longer even interior the league yet. Even that moron Al Davis shouldn't screw this one up. Russell is obviously extra clever than Quinn. era.

Anyone who says the Raiders don't need a QB has obviously not been watching the Raiders all year. They cut Brooks and I don't see them depending on Walters, cause he's just that awful. And the key thing is that Russell is big enough to take the hits and roll with them, literally. He also has a cannon of an arm, which helps when you're throwing from your backside 99% of the time.
The only other option I see them going with, is picking Calvin Johnson and then getting someone to trade an average QB for Moss maybe. We're all sure he's going to the Packers, but knowing Al Davis any NFL fan has known not to be sure about ANYTHING that man has to say.

Depends on the Moss for Rogers trade. If that trade goes through the pick will be WR Johnson from Georgia Tech.
Russell is good but Johnson is by far the best WR prospect in last 10 years. Size and freakish speed, either is worthy of the #1 pick.
Kid from SC? are you talking about Marijuanavich

First of all, taking Russell isnt going to solve their problems. The Raiders are gonna suck for quite a few years with or without him. And if the Raiders were smart, they'd draft Quinn, who's going to be a better NFL QB than Russell will.

He better be picked by Raiders.
But Russell=Culpepper? I don't think so.
He has strong arm and fast feet for guy his size (D-Line size). But if he doesn't have fast receiver with him, his arm will be useless, just like how Culpepper did (f***ed up this season). If Moss leaves, Russell will not be all-pro good. If Moss is not leaving soon, he better be picked or Raider's season will have less-than-6-win season again.
Anyway, Brady Quinn will not even stay for 5 seasons, TRUST ME. (Like Alex Smith; same to you Troy Smith)

It comes down to whether or not they trade Randy Moss. If they trade moss to the Packers, its most likely gonna be for Aaron Rodger. And right now the deal looks like its going to go through. Once that happens They should end up taking Calvin Johnson #1. If they dont trade randy or they trade randy and dont get a QB in return then they should go Russell #1. But right now its looks like its gonna be aaron rodger for Randy Moss, which leaves the raiders picking the #1 prospect on the board Calvin Johnson.

I will answer both of your questions.
First of all, yes, they will be stupid. But that is a product of their owner's mentality.
Second, they will most likely take Russell with their first pick.
Lastly, nothing the Raiders do this off season, short of killing off the cancer known as Al Davis, will allow them much added productivity this next year.
