I work nights also and it took me more than a month to adjust to sleeping during the day. I don't know how long you have been having problems but have you tried over the counter sleep aids? I just made my bedroom really dark and turn a fan on to block out the noise from outside. Now I sleep pretty well through the day. I know how you feel though, sometimes my dogs won't leave me alone and I feel like downing some benadryl and passing out.

The lack of sleep and adding a sleeping pill of some kind is a bad mix. Plus if you smoke or drink a lot of caffeine your a walking heart attack. I work at night too. I find I sleep better if I turn off the tv and read a book to mellow out, then put on a sleep mask to block any light. The light tricks our brains. People will tell you to use melatonin. It's natural your body produces it but by using melatonin you actually mess up your natural production of it and then your back at square one. lastly, sleeping like a normal person on the weekends keeps your cycle messed up. You need to continue to sleep during the day and stay awake at night.

absolutely! ambien cr is one that works great for that and since you are simply changing your sleep habits you shouldnt have to stay on a sleep aid for long at all, most likely just long enough to get you in the habit of sleeping during the day, also (my hubby works nights) i put up black curtains in our room and usually turn on the air (or a fan) lightly so hes all comfy and he sleeps about 4 or 5 hrs and then he takes a nap later. good luck and sweet dreamin

It helps to have your hot meal about an hour before bedtime. Read it in a medical newspaper column. That and nightshades. Sleep aids kept me drowsy all the time.

well yes..but try to ensure it is a natural sleeping aid - which could mean tips instead of medication. You can always try to sleep with all the blinds down or drink something nice to make you drowsy..or just do something to get yourself to sleep.
