I've been working in a clothes shop part time working saturdays and some sundays since the end of last august. I'm planning on handing in my notice on saturday but I was never given a contract so I am unsure how much notice I will have to work. I have said in the letter that I am happy to work until the 14th of March. Is this a long enough period. I am leaving because I want more time to concentrate on my A levels. If you want any other info please just ask. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks xx

sorry but u have to give a month's notice or they will deduct your pay for the balance days, but it also depends on your boss if he/she waives the notice period, that would be a good thing....

Two weeks is the norm for unskilled labour in the UK. That's polite and any sane employer can't complain. Some people give one week, especially on a minimum wage salary, or if you really dislike the boss, just do a "no show".

14th of March is yesterday though, so that sounds like no notice to me.

If you were not given a contract I cannot see how they can make you work a notice period (more than your willing to). In all the jobs that I have had I was made to sign an agreement/contract that had all of these details given to me. I dont think your employer has any grounds to stand on. Surely they will understand and let you go without any resentment or making things difficult for you.
Good Luck!

Most people only give a 2 week notice. You were only part time so I really don't think you were required to give any notice at all. You gave them more than I would have. They should be thankful for that.

i might say you will possibly be able to desire to get laid off early. in case your place of work is scaling down on the two the hard artwork and artwork stress, you will possibly be able to desire to be next. the only constructive factor that i will tell is that it provides your boss time to locate a substitute and you time to coach them on your point. maximum places basically ask for 2 weeks for this.
