I have trouble understanding this. Why does he need worthless little creatures to worship him? And anyway, the word worship in a way reminds me of slavery. It is like you are bound to worship God forever, and you have no other choice. That is basically a slave. Why would God want this?

God does not want us to worship Him/Her.

This is an old idea that came from a time when people believed that phenomenon like weather we manifestations of God/Gods mood. If Fred got struck by lightening it seemed logical that God must have been angry at Fred.

This makes one wonder, what if God is upset with me too. From these ideas evolved the idea of worship, or groveling before the supreme entity. This lead to sacrifices and other ways to appease the Gods.

Christianity changed all of this for a while but when Rome took over Christianity in the 3rd and 4th century they reinstated the idea of worship, and blood sacrifices, even if these sacrifices were symbolic.

This is where the idea that the blood of Jesus washes away the sins of the world comes from. The angry God was appeased with the sacrifice that Jesus supposedly made.

Jesus taught of a far more personal God who is far too close to us to ever need worship. This is why he told us that the kingdom of the father was within each of us.

From an atheist point of view, there is no God, and religion is a means of social control. Therefore, the reason your religion commands you to worship God like a slave is precisely for the purpose of keeping you submissive and obedient to a hierarchy. It is not a question of what God wants, because God doesn't exist; it's a question of what it suits the people in power to tell you that God wants.

I am only answering this question from an atheist point of view, of course. From a Christian, Muslim, Jewish etc point of view the act of worship is part of a real relationship with God.

i think that a number of of what we are as human beings breaks right down to the relatives unit. infants that connect gangs are if truth be told becoming an nuclear relatives. The concept of God, Freud believed, is a projection of our father into the sky. additionally, consistent with Freud's concept of the superego, it fairly is a projection of our judgment of right and incorrect, discouraging us from overindulgence So, why does God require worship. a unfold of mum and dad would not techniques it if their infants worshiped them. perchance worship is a sturdy be conscious, yet with each and all the mum and dad complaining approximately how infants "at present" disrespect authority, a criticism, by employing the way, that predates Christ, that's not problematical to be certain how worship/obedience could be values a be certain could relish. Therefor, God, a be certain, only needs conscious infants. you will debate no count number if elevating infants to be obedient is the only right for them psychologically, yet few could argue that they are not extra handy to enhance. The Bible is all approximately obedience, and bowing down and acknowledging God's superiority is yet in a distinctive way of installation authority and ability

I think I know how you feel.
How do you know God wants us to worship Him. He probably doesn't care and He most probably feels we better use our time and effort elsewhere - may be to enjoy the little - great pleasures He created.
We probably unnecessarily feel small and inconsequential in His vast creation and in order to keep up our contact with the Supreme we (out of insecurity / in order to attract His attention) worship Him. It is probably to silence the guilt feeling within us or to feel that we have done our bit to cheer the Great Performer that we worship God and blame Him for being Great and drawing praise from all.

I understand what you mean.
I think that "worship" continues the word of God to be passed on to generations. If we never acknowledged the existence of God (by worshiping him), then how would future generations even know about or respect our religions?

This is a very good and thought provoking question.

Religions are man-made, thus God doesn't have anything to do with it, if there even is a God to begin with.

As Paul Simon states in his song, "How Can You Live in the Northeast": "Names and religion comes just after date of birth", thus, all of the things that seperate us are man-made.

That's why there are several different religions in our world, not just Christianity, Judaism, or Islam.

i am not a religious person however i have learn of the cultures of religion.

personally i feel that you should not take God as a person you can speak to, but rather, that god is what is made up of whatever natural Law and compositions. Being born to this world already mean you are part of god, thus many speaking of human as the "children of god". Denial of such a natural entity wouldn't mean anything, and could have been born out of pure foolishness.

Being non-religious and a non-worshipper doesnt mean that we dont abide by the laws of this world, but rather that they could want to live their lifes as they wish to or that they are tired of all the conflicts caused by religions.

And no god actually made it as a law that you have to worship him. Or rather no one made it a fact that god wanted this. Its all our puny foolish human mind making it up.

God wants you to love him. He wants a relationship with you. He gives you instructions to make your life happier, healthier, and more joyful, but gives you the choice as to whether or not you will adopt them.

He wants the same relationship that parents typically want with their children. He knows what is best for us, but gives us lattitude to make our own choices.

Every choice we make "enslaves" us to that choice. So, choose your master.

Love cannot exist without choice. Love is something you do, not just an emotion. Read 1 Corinthians, chapter 13 for a good understanding Godly love.

I don't know that "worship" per se is listed as a necessity although it seems to follow in our own reasoning. Belief is the necessary prerequisite of the New Testament.
