Oh yes, I live in the hills outside Fairbanks, Alaska in a fairly tight community of about ten houses. On deep snow days we call each other to find out who's coming "off the mountain" when. Those with four wheel drive always go first, in case those without four wheel drive can't make it to school or work.
When I was little my mother baked caramel nut cinnamon rolls for all the neighbors at Christmas time. I love carrying on that tradition, it's always neat to see who's had a baby and such. Knowing your neighbors is important.
Something funny...my aunt lives in Reno and is good friends with her neighbors. I happened to ask one afternoon who her neighbor's were and found out that her "good neighbor" is my "good neighbor's" brother. =)
