Are you an undercover superhero? Would your outing cause a wave of your enemies to terrorize the Earth? If so, then you may not want to admit it yet.
If, however, you are worried about what people may think, don't. You need to think of yourself first and your feelings. You will be a lot happier when you are out. Some may initially not understand, but that they have to deal with themselves.

You need to be true to yourself. But, I will caution you...it's going to be a bumpy ride. I am not gay myself, but I do have a lot of gay friends and I have found their "coming-out" stories fascinating. Some are suprised of the support of their families and friends, sometimes you will find that they already knew...others aren't allowed to step foot into their parent's house.
You have to weigh the cost/benefit ratio. Is being myself worth risking ex-communication from my family/friends and possibly a church. Most say that it's worth it, others don't. It is a personal decision and yours alone. Perhaps you could be a "gay pioneer" in your group and dispell some of the myths and prejudice of those around you.
Regardless, it won't be easy and I pray it all goes well for you.

Yes, it is proper. Think of all the people who will get hurt if you DON'T admit that you're gay.

Who - except your parents - could possibly get hurt by you being gay?
You need to weigh it up... hurt a handful of people for a short period of time by admitting it (they'll all get over it eventually), or hurt yourself for the rest of your life by living a lie.
Tough choice.

It depends on if you will get hurt by letting others know; such as if the others would make you feel guilty for coming out or if any friendships are lost in the process.
If you do feel comfortable about coming out, then you should.

I am a transsexual and for my own peace of mind and at the suggestion of my analyst I told everyone. Nothing negative happened and in fact I got more support from my family.

That is a decision only you can make. I can only reference my own coming out story. I'm glad I did though. I feel a lot more freedom for knowing that I'm not living a lie.

You owe it to yourself to tell the truth. Homosexuality isn't your problem--it's theirs.
