International law si oftentimes viewed by many as ineffevtive because most nations do not follow it. The International Court of Justice of the United Nations, for example, is often defied by member nations. International law is not binding on nations because there are oftentimes no written agreements.

International laws, related to environmental laws, are irrelevant when they are not enforced or forced to be enforced in treaties.

An example of this is Nafta or Gatt. We left environmental enforcement out of those treaties. The result is that basically international companies can ignore international env. laws with no punishment...
