The English Premier League is the league that top clubs in England play in. lower clubs play in the first, second and third division. it happens from august till may.
the Champions league is where the top clubs in europe play. you have to be the top 4 clubs in youre domestic league to qualify to play in the CL.
The UEFA cup is similar to the CL but it is for lower clubs (no 5 & 6 in the domestic league).
this is just a simple explanation, its actually more complicated.

English Premier League (if this is what you mean) is domestic competition in England. Actually there are some leagues in England, but EPL is the highest league. It takes place during the whole year, with pre-season every year when no matches played. There are about twenty clubs competing to win the trophy with full-competition system, i.e. each club play games against all other clubs in the same league, home and away, to win points. At the end of season, four clubs with lowest points are in relegation zone. There are similar leagues in other countries.
Top four clubs in EPL are eligible to play in continental competition called Champions League against clubs from other countries in Europe. Some countries like Italy or Spain or Italy have four clubs play in the league, but some other minor countries can only have one club playing. It depends on UEFA's country coefficient. The format of Champions League is like European Cup or World Cup.
Clubs that perform well but cannot get top four position may expect to play in UEFA cup by gaining 5th & 6th position. That's why UEFA Cup is considered less prestigious. UEFA Cup and Champions League takes place the whole year like domestic league, but with lesser number of matches.
