In addition to the obvious complications already mentioned, there are other possible complications not readily known. There is a major blood vessel in the body which passes near the sphincter muscles. Straining too hard when "pooping" can restrict the flow of blood in this vein, which in turn can cause a person lose consciousness.

You never want to strain to defecate. If you need to strain, it is best to wait until you can comfortably defecate. You can also use stool softeners if you have a problem.
