It means driving a car with a manual transmission, as opposed to an automatic. You have to shift the gears yourself, and use a third pedal called a 'clutch' to disengage the transmission when you shift. If you've ever been in a car with someone who's constantly moving the shifter around while they drove, that's a stick shift. Cars in the US are rarely stick shifts, but in most of the rest of the world automatics are for people who can't drive very well.

Well here in Australia there's two types: manual and automatic. I drive manual which is the same as stick shift. In some places they refer to stick shift as manual vehicles but basically it is the type that you have to manually change gears and does not run on automatic transmission.

Cars have Manual or Automatic transmissions. Auto is easy, pull the shaft to drive and Go.go.go. Manual is stick shift. You have to manually shift gears. You need to work a clutch and watch the RPMs. Sticks fun as heck when you master it.

tck shift means that the car has a manual transmission instead of automatic. An automatic car normally has P, R, N ,D and maybe 1 and 2. Ther is also no gear changing.
In a manual transmission, the car has a clutch and while driving, you will have to change gears regularly

A manual transmission A.K.A STICK SHIFTER is a type of transmission used in automobiles. usually consist of 1st gear, 2nd gear, etc... between the two front seats of the car is a knob sticking out called the SHIFTER. With the use of the CLUTCH (a third peddle found next to the gas and brake of a car) you can shift up or down, usually shift to a higher gear the faster your going.

Also known as standard transmission or manual transmission is a vehicle transmission that requires the driver to shift gears using a clutch pedal found next to the brake pedal, you start by pressing down on the clutch pedal and then moving the gearshift into the neutral position, then start the car, keeping the clutch pedal down and then putting the car into first gear by moving the gearshift to the top-left position, applying the foot brake, releasing the foot brake when you're ready to start moving, releasing the clutch pedal slowly; accelerating until the car has reached about 3,000 rpm, then taking your foot off the gas, pressing down on the clutch pedal, and pull the gearshift directly down through neutral to second gear. Repeating the shifting process each time you hit 3,000 rpm until you're driving at the appropriate speed.

A stick shift car has a clutch pedal that you use to disengage the clutch so you can put the car in gear ,then ease off the clutch pedal,to get the car moving and to change the gears up or down.

"Stick shift" refers to cars that have manual transmission, since manual cars have a 'stick' to 'shift' gears. To the contrary, automatic transmission cars shift gears automatically.
