I'm 20 weeks pregnant and (usually in the evenings) for the last week or so, I have been feeling a tightening around my abdomen, across my belly button region. Sometimes it's quite painful but only lasts a minute or so each time (this has happened up to 4 times in an evening but they're not regular). Could this be what they call Branxton Hicks Contractions? I tried telling my gyno about it but he kind of danced around the question and didn't give me a straight answer. Obviously from his reaction, I've got nothing to worry about but I'd still like to know if anyone out there has experienced anything similar?

Braxton Hicks. Your body is just practicing.
On a side note...I wouldn't want a dr who did not address my issues directly. Maybe you should consider getting another dr.

Yes they are Braxton Hicks hun. I used to get them, they take your breath away don't they! It almost felt like the baby was doing tumble turns inside of me! Don't worry about them though, just mention it to your midwife if your doctor isn't taking your concerns seriously. It may seem nothing to him but you're only human and need your questions answered.

hello, these tightenings used to really s h i t me, i thought i was in labour every night and got scared cos i started feeling them at 22weeks, every night at around 7 when id sit down id get them tightenings, they hurt too, on the net i checked it out and they say if u get more than 4 in an hour see a doctor,this made me panic, i used to get more than 4 sometimes and worried heaps, they say drink heaps of water, all through the day, this helped control them a bit, and take it easy during the day, on my busy days i felt them more, take it easy time flies, my baby ashlee is already 3mths old, good luck

hey hun, sounds like Braxton Hicks to me. innocuous. inspite of the undeniable fact that if I have been you i'd telephone the midwife. purely to verify. I purely say because of the fact I lost my toddler at 19 weeks, if I have been 20 weeks they'd have tried to keep her, I purely recognize you will quite be secure than sorry xx

mainly i would say that they are small contractions that are getting you ready for labor later on.
are they really painful?
im 21 weeks and i have been experiencing the same thing.

yep thats braxton hicks and also could be just your belly tightening.
