Pokemon will probably gain popularity when diamond and pearl are released and some gamers flock back to it.
Other than that, Pokemon became a cult-hit for a few years but slowly died as some lost interest, but theres still a lot of people who enjoy Pokemon. I noticed recently they reintroduced a Pokemon gaming magazine that was discontinued. Stores don't sell pokemon stuff as it used to, but www.pokemoncenter.com still has a lot.

Pokemon already had it's glory days just like a lot of cartoons.
The 1980s cartoons made a comeback not too long ago, so give it 10-20 years and you'll see Pokemon revamp itself!
