my monitor will switch off into standby unexpected, this hasnt got anything to do with power settings as i have all of them to "never"
this last happened when i was doing a defrag, and it cant be a virus or spyware as i have just done a clean reinstall of the o/s
i cleaned the chassis fan last week and i may have put it back in the wrong way,i have also noticed my graphic card tempetures are slightly higher lately
so could it be my graphic card thats causing the problem
i would like to hear from anyone who has been experiencing similar problems
cheers

This happened to me about 3 weeks ago. we asked a friend who had had similar problems and it was related to the graphics card! We replaced the card et voila, the monitor no longer turns off and everything is great again!

Though it could be the graphics card, make sure it's ONLY the monitor that goes off - if the hardisk swithes off too, could be the fan or the hd itself. If its the last on, you'd better back up your data and think about purchasing a new hd.

You sure it's just the monitor and not the pc itself? I suspect the latter - if the fan IS in the wrong way it won't be doing it's job, the processor will overheat & shut the system down.

Your monitor dusnt support your current screen resolution. Turn it down and it will stop doing that. That happerned to me and my monitor blew up

Then change the fan back the other way and see what happens.
