It depends where you are on your cycle, if you have just had a period or if it has been a couple of weeks since your last period or if you are expecting your period soon.
If you know when your next period is due, you can buy tests that give you reasonably accurate results up to 4 days before your next period is due.
Good luck.

Could I be pregnant?
Answer:
A missed period (amenorrhea) in someone who has always had regular periods is often the first sign of pregnancy. It sometimes takes several days beyond the missed period before the home pregnancy test becomes positive, so you may want to repeat it. Your doctor could also do a blood hCG hormone test, which is more reliable and becomes positive about 10 or so days after ovulation.

If you are not pregnant, you may want to check for ovulation in your next cycle. The No. 1 reason for missing your period without pregnancy is when you did not ovulate (anovulation). If you look in your next cycle for fertility signs, you will find out pretty quickly whether you ovulated. That will help in figuring out what happened if you miss your period the next time.

Please remember that every woman is different and the time it takes for the fertilized egg to implant in your uterus wall can vary. A common misconception is that implantation occurs 7 days after conception, but the research findings showed that first appearance of pregnancy hormone, HCG, due to implantation occurred 6-12 days after ovulation, with 84% of the pregnancies implanting on days 8-10 after ovulation. If you don't get a positive pregnancy test, it doesn't mean that you are not pregnant. It could be that you ovulated later than you thought (meaning that conception and subsequent HCG production didn't happen as you calculated) or that, for you, implantation took longer than the average.

In conclusion, 9-10 days would be a good time, just to make sure.
