You can play almost any media format with it, including WMV.

Hi, Sushmita.
I recommend you to go for VLC Media Player. This player plays all types of files.
I had the same problem with my Windows Media Player, there are some problems like codec etc; I'm sorry I am not sure about the technical reasons.
But, this is what I did? Downloaded VLC Media Player from Download.com, now I am able to execute all files which were not working earlier.
Just try that!

Sush ,wmv is an extension to a fle denoting the format in which it is stored,Its a windows media file and will open with Windows Media player. try Installing the latest from internet,

Lisa and you need to download and install the Klite Mega Codec Pack with Media Player Classic.
This'll play anything and you don't need to keep too many conflicting players that can crash your systems.

when this question has been answered i can also suggest once you do download window's media player you should make sure all your codecs are up to date.

you will need media codecs, go to betanews.com and some the media codecs u need and install them.
