Really, this could be hundreds of things...first thing I would do, is open the case and remove all network cards, modems, adapters and such..one could be causing this message. It's hard to pick and choose without an error code or error message. If you remove everything and it boots up, try reinstalling them one by one until you find the culprit. If you remove them all and it still doesn't work, remove the battery that runs the bios, then try it. If not again, it maybe your mobo or possible the ram cards. Hope it helps. p.s. always leave the pc plugged in but powered off when repairing. This grouds u and the pc through the ground in the wall outlet so you run less risk off causing esd damage to the pc.

Re-install Windows. Don't need to format... just start with the XP boot CD and choose repair.
If that doesn't work, try again but now install to a different folder.
Salvage all your files (move to USB drive, burn to CD, save in internet.. etc.) then format your PC and re-install XP.

REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT!

Find the disk/cd that came with the computer and reinstall windows! or get someone elses windows (not someone elses that came with the computer because it wont work) or alternativly get a new computer! you can always transfer the files from the old one to the new by taking out the hard drive of the old one and putting it into the new one as a slave drive.

new computers are so much cheaper then they used to be and very powerful!

Open up your case and see if the main CPU fan (the big one in the center of the motherboard) is working or not.

If it doesn't work or if its jammed with dust, the CPU might be getting overheated.

Push F8 while it boots. There will be a screen with option to open in last good configuration. Choose that. It should be ok then.
