Check out Circular Quay, particularly the aquarium. There's a glassed in tunnel that goes right under the Sydney Harbour and sometimes you see sharks through it.
You MIGHT be old enough to do the Harbour Bridge climb. That's a blast.
Taronga Zoo is fun, regardless of your age. You'll get up close and personal (like, 2 feet away!) from a koala and see all kinds of other Australian wildlife. If you do go to the zoo, take the harbour cruise over from Circular Quay. It's a great ride and you'll enjoy the city view.
Darling Harbour has lots of shops and some classic old ships to enjoy, even some you can go on tours of.
The Queen Victoria Building and the Strand have great shopping.
You can rent surfing gear at Bondi beach.

The drinking age is 18 so you should stay way from pubs, nightclubs etc. If you look older than you are, you might be able to bluff your way past the bouncers. Apart from that, the age of consent is 16 for everyone so as long as your partner says "yes" you can go to bed with anyone over 16 - and everything is legal with consent.

You get to go to Australia? How fun!!!! I am green with envy for I too at 17 was going to go there, however, I fell in love and spent all my money on a lost cause.....sniff sniff.... You will have a blast I am sure of that, follow the advice of lightning for it seems to be sound. You are so lucky!
