My nails are so soft! I can bend them and often find that I've chipped or broken them by doing the simplest of things.

I have tried Sally Hansen's "Hard as Nails". However it kept chipping and after 5 days I could peel it off. I've also an Avon product and that didn't seem to work.

One of the RN's I work with uses ridge filler and she claims it's made her nails hard.

Go to your local beauty supply stores and see what they reccomend. I did, and they all reccomended a product called "rock". It works pretty good.

You should also get a nail buffer. When you first start using it, it will make your nails a bit thinner, but after a while it will make them stronger. Also, for a nail hardener to work, generally you need to reapply every few days. If it does just peel right off, you probably had oil on your nails. Be sure to use a nail polish remover, or alcohol on your nails before you apply the polish.

There are vitamin products out there that claim to make your nails stronger. Those are NOT regulated by the FDA, and the companies really don't need a lot to back up there claims. So many of them don't work like they say. Upping your calcium intake will help though. If your not much of a milk drinker, try getting like juices with extra calcium. Also, be sure to eat lots of veggies. Besides helping your nails, it will help your overall health and well being.

Oh my. As a nail tech, I have to disagree that buffing your nails will make them harder. If you're trying to make your nail harder, you have to either use a hardener from the outside, or increase your nutrient intake from the inside.

In my experience, the best nail hardener out there is OPI Nail Envy. It's sold in nail salons. Follow the directions that are included in the box.

I do recommend too to keep your nails filed back to a short length while you're working on making them harder. When you're filing, make sure you file from the edge of the nail to the middle - on the left side of the nail, go left to right - on the right side of the nail, go right to left. Going with the natural grain of the nail will keep the layers of your nail plate stuck together instead of pulled apart.

In the best case scenario, a nail hardener will only make the nail that's already grown out harder - if you're wanting to make your body grow harder nails, you've got to start with your vitamin and mineral intake. Take a look at your diet and see if there are any obvious gaps. Your body knows that nail growth is not essential to life, so if you're not healthy, nails will be one of the first things to go.

I have very thick strong nails by blood but use the below products to protect them. I have recommended them to people with thin brittle peeling nails & it has helped them.

Sally Hansen Diamond Strong & Xtreme wear topcaot in Invisible (clear)
I also use a topcoat from Sallys called Gelous but its thick & doesnt last long. For the money Sally Hansen is great! Ive used more expensive products like OPI & was not empressed.

I tried A Touch of Diamonds years ago, it worked wonders but for someone on a budget... Miracle nail in the dollar store works great due to a touch of diamonds is hard to find and is also very expensive.

short neat nails are nice and neat. I dont like long nails because dirt can get under them and it look nasty
its digusting and gross when somebodys nails are usually all chewed up to the ending.
