I have been told by NICU nurses and my daughter's physical therapists that, in some cases, babies born at about 30-33 weeks often have MORE problems than babies born earlier than that. But again, that's not ALL cases. I'm not exactly sure why that is though. Studies are being done to perhaps find an answer to that. There are theories I've heard about lung development and other developments being interrupted at that gestational age, etc. But every case is different.

I gave birth to my daughter in my 6th month of pregnancy (she was born at 27 weeks, 1 lb. 14 oz.). She had many typical preemie problems in the beginning and was in the NICU for 4 months, but now at 13 months old she's doing amazingly well. My cousin's baby was born at 33 weeks and he's also now 13 months old and he's doing amazing also, although he didn't have nearly as many problems as my daughter did in the beginning.

Edit: The person above me also pointed out a very important point. If the mother had a serious medical condition such as preeclampsia or HELLP, etc. it's much safer to deliver the baby sooner rather than later. For both the baby and mother. I had a severe case of preeclampsia and that's WHY my daughter was born at 27 weeks (via emergency c-section)...it saved both our lives.

Sometimes, if the mother to be is having any sort of problem like Pregnancy Induced Hypertension or Pre-Eclampsia (high blood pressure and protein related problem, generally with swelling), It is safer to deliver the baby pre term than to let the mother to be go on any further. These two likely problems are generally detected about the 30th week and sometime the problems come that hard and fast that it can do severe damage to the mothers liver and kidneys. If it is getting worse, a lot of doctors will opt to induce or carry out a emergency c-section to save the mothers health even if the woman is only 29weeks.

There are weeks in the last trimester that are apparently not safe to deliver the baby, but your doctor will advise you depending on your situation and the health of your baby.

Some times, its just a case of have the baby now and deal with what is to come in the way of possible problems, or run an even higher risk of doing permanent damage to the mother.

The extra untimely the toddler the fewer the possibility of survival. If born at 8 months somewhat one will possibly no longer even want a NICU stay, yet at 7 months they're going to. She might desire to have been thinking approximately it the incorrect way- and you're surprising- daily counts.

I have never heard that.As a matter of fact if at all possible a GYN will do everything in his/her power to make you carry the baby to 8 months before they will induce early but if it is a true emergency then they will induce at 7 months but the baby will have better chance of dying and having long term health problems.

I was born 2 and a half weeks early. I weighted 2lbs. and 10ounces. My sister weighted 3lbs. They are able to give the babies a type of shot that helps the lungs develope. I have never understood why its easier for a baby to to be delivered in the seventh month. I wish for the best of luck for you family.

i dont know who youve been talking to but the older the better the earlier the more intense the treatment and the more organs are undeveloped. they will need more therapy and they will most likely have lung troubles when they are older. eg asthma
