I'm new to playing soccer... how do i pick a pair of soccer cleats that fit me and considered comfortable? Do I buy my regular walking-shoes size or do i buy any larger or smaller?

First of all you must know the shape of your feet (of course you do). Some feet are narrow and some are broad. So do soccer boots. You must find that fits you shape.

Nowadays, some boots are made of leather, some made of vinyl / pvcand some made of both (upper leather & other part vinyl / pvc). Better you get boots that made of leather of maybe both (leather + vinyl / pvc). They are more comfortable.

About the size, make sure it's the same size of your feet. Nither one size bigger nor smaller. As you use it from time to time (frequently used) the boot stretch a little bit due to agrasive feet movement (running and so). But still will fit you.

If you are playing on a hard ground, you may get a boots with normal 12 or maybe 14 studs. Do not buy boots with 6 studs. Those stud are a little bit longer. It will hurt your feet. Those 6 studs are for soft ground. Normally rugby player using it.

Do take care of the leather part. Wash them with plain water but dont dry them out under direct sunlight. It will make it over dry and easily break / tear. To dry it in better way, stuffed in it with used newspaper (it will absord water / moisture). By doing this, it will dry out equally inside and outside. Also it will keep your boot in shape (will not go flat and hard). Polishing the leather part will also make it better.

Go and try on a few pairs at a sport shop, and wear your soccer socks when you go.

Generally, most cleats fit pretty snugly so you may find you want to get them a half size bigger than your normal shoes...but they are made of very soft material and dont hurt, and its no good if they are loose on your foot.
Boots with short rubber studs are for hard, dry pitches, while those with longer aluminium studs are for soft, wet pitches.

Smaller. You don't want that baby coming of when you kick the ball or while running. Of course your mom will make you buy a larger size so it will last longer but don't listen to her.

well, first look at the bottom of the cleats. fast runner? you need spokes that line the outside. maybe get someone who works at a big 5! need ball control when kicking? make sure the tongue of the shoe covers the laces!
