We can't even gain a military advantage in a third world country like Iraq! A small beleaguered country that has no navy, no air force, to regular army and they have already killed over 3000 of us and have permanently disabled more than 20,000 of our boys and girls. China doesn't have the capacity to invade us, but If we were to invade China they would squash us like a bugs with their 1 million strong army. They even have the technology to destroy our satellites, of which our military is totally dependent. But why would they go to war with us, they can ruin us financially, without firing a shot. They own our nation debt!

Yes, Americans understand how many people are in China. Some of us have actually been there.
First, why would we or China need to go to war with each other?
The US Military is the reason we would win. War is not about numbers. It is about strategy, troops, equipment, training, logistics, etc.
We have an amazing contingient of troops. They, on average, have a higher level of education than the general population. They have the best equipment and they are well trained.
Our Navy is the largest, most potent ever. Our Air Force..ditto.
If you control the waters, and the sky's, the ground is far easier to take and hold.
The only thing to be accomplished is many dead people, mostly Chinese, but many Americans, too.
Personally, I hope our two countries continue to move closer to each other, working and trading in harmony.

Take a poll and find out. In the meantime, here are some other facts for you to rejoice wildly in discovering: This is the 21st, not the 11th century. If (God forbid) the U.S. fought a war with Communist China, it would be a gloves-off war (the type which we have not fought since we incinerated urban Japan and Germany), not like Korea and Vietnam (which we fought with one hand tied behind our backs), or even our little campaign in Iraq (where our main goal since the beginning has been NOT to kill ANY Iraqis if possible). China’s power-grid and industrial capacity would be destroyed by air and submarine-launched missiles leaving them starving to death without even the capacity to retaliate against the U.S. mainland (though perhaps our allies in Japan would suffer greatly). Such a war is unthinkable, of course, since we are China’s number-one trading partner; their leaders may be brutal old oligarchs, but they're not stupid. Like the Soviets (and their more charming but hardly less oligarchic successors in Russia) and the lunatic in North Korea, they want to live and enjoy their power. Our real enemies, the Islamic fascists, sadly do not as a rule care much about their own preservation if they can by their dying hurt us or our allies.

Hannibal was outnumbered 2-1 by the Romans. The Romans fielded over 87,000 troops. At the end of the Battle of Cannae, Hannibals troops had totally annihilated the Roman Army they faced. Numbers mean nothing.
China has an insignificant Navy. They cannot transport troops overseas efficiently. Their equipment old Soviet-style and is antiquated. Their Air Force is ineffective. All they have is infantry troops. The US Air Force and Navy would pound them into hamburger. And they would not risk a nuclear strike against us, because they too would be destroyed. China knows better than to attack us.

Getting a billion people across the Pacific Ocean to invade us is so damned-near impossible that I don't really worry about it too much.
Besides, if it was absolutely necessary we could even out the population difference in about an hour.

well... militarily we still have a big advantage technology wise... which would probably level the playing field...
how do you transport that many people that far?
it wouldn't be easy...
but, the real affect this has... MUCH MORE... than militarily... is economically... that's 1 BILLION more workers, 1 BILLION more consumers, 1 BILLION more investors...
that's the kind of economic fodder than can ABSOLUTELY make them go thermonuclear economically... and they have...

I suspect most Americans would have trouble locating China on a map, let alone estimating the population.

Ever wonder what can those one billion do when they all runs out of batteries in planet of apes.
Ever wonder how the glarings and glitterings of the lights in the new Atlantis will be flickering and dying out with everyone running out of batteries in planet of apes?
