Us Cardinal fans had him first. As a kid there were many games I'd hear "Holy Cow... there she's goes"... and I'd run outside onto Grand Avenue hoping I'd get the ball that went over the right-field wall of Sportsman's Park.
Harry helped to nurture two other great broadcasters from St. Louis: Jack Buck & color-man Joe Garagiola.
Harry was cool. Throw in a little scandel, a little booze, a little citisizing of team players who he thought wasn't playing up to their potentual and sports writers had something to print almost every day.
Harry "Holy Cow" Carey deserves his spot in the Hall of Fame.

Although I never heard much of Harry Carey growing up a Mets fan in New York, I know he was loved by the Chicago faithful, and he is a big part of baseball history.
I miss Bob Murphy too.

You did not have to be a Cubs fan to appreciate Harry Carey he was an orginal and will always be missed . There will never be another like him. All they want is cookie cutter announcers now . I am very glad the cubs honored his memory will a statue. A nd all this is com ing from a Cardinals fan , which is where he started

I do miss Harry Carey, but I would also rank his "Holy Cows" behind his glasses and 7th inning stretch 'Take me out the the ball game' song at every home game.....with the classic "Root Root Root for the Cubbies......"
He's great and will never be forgotten....EVER!

boy i sure do!!!!!!! hollllllllllllly cowwwwwww, i was invited to cubs camp in the late 60's as a 3rd baseman; couldnt report due to a pretty nasty injury but i remember thinking that it would be cool to meet ron santo but almost getting dizzy about the possibility of meeting harry carey. sure do miss that drunken old bastard. not many of the old broadcasters left any more. i also miss bill schonely of the portland trailblazers arguably the best basketball play by play man in the business.

Being a lifelong Cubs fan I definitely miss Harry. Even if he was 3/4 drunk during the broadcast he always was entertaining.

Hey, Hey, I miss the holy cow's. H.C. kept me going during the bad times of baseball. Stoney took major heat for "telling it like it is," you didn't hear any complaints about Harry Caray's constructive criticism. Maybe people were afraid he would spell their name backwards on national television.
