Maybe your parents are concerned about how you will use it and if you will run the bill way up, as so many advertisements suggest happens. So, how about starting with a prepaid cell phone, and offering to pay part of the cost ... that way YOU control totally how much iut costs each month. Maybe ask your parents to buy a $20 card a month for it, and anything beyond that has to come out of money you earn yourself.
There are lots of prepaid phones to choose from, and then perhaps after 6 months or a year of proving you are responsible with it, they will let you have a cell phone with a monthly plan.
Also, to help convince them of the need, tell them that way they can get hold of you anytime, anywhere, and you always have a phone with you if you need help from them or anyone else, like an urgent, uncomfortable, or emergency situation. Give them an example of when they couldnt find or get hold of you or when you needed help and couldnt get it right away.

How old are you ??
You can go with cricket ( cricket is a company that doesnt make you sign a contract you pay for the phone and then you just pay for the whole month of minutes. BEST for a first timer ... I belive you dont have you be a certian age either , and if you are old enough to work then you can pay for it yourself. That will also show your parents you are reliable and responsible and then maybe they might co-sign to get you a good cell phone plan.
Hope that helps good luck.

Do like I did and get a prepaid phone through T-Mobile, you only pay for minutes used. There's also Metro PCS which charges a flat rate regardless of minutes used.
The main thing is to show your willingness to help pay for the phone or better yet pay for the entire bill yourself. This will make a better impression than whining about not having a cell.

Well you need to break the chains.
Dont show up at home early for a few days. They will be concerned about you and they will get you a new cellphone.

maybe you aren't old enough, thats why he doesnt want to get you one. If you think you are, have a talk with him and tell him you are responsible enough to use it, and don't go over your minutes sweetie!
