i think its dumb for a woman to dress this way and be expected to receive respect and and dignity both outside of the work force and inside. if you dress like an object you will end up being treated like one. it doesnt mean you are liberated it mean you are trashy. also it rediculous how women get mad at men for staring when it shows so much of there body. women respond by saying "we women are sexual now days and we should be able to dress the way we want and still receive respect and be treated like a person" but obviousely thats not gonna happen. its cheap. just
Like I don’t treat men with respect when they think its cool to show there body off in the workplace

dont get me wrong, i beleive that if a woman wants to dress this way then she should have the freedom to do it. i may not agree with it but people deserve freedom. and i of course find this way of dress sexy as i am a man, but i never take these individuals seriously. its hard to see there intelligence when something elseIs showing. Its very unprofessional and very distracting.

I'm a young female and it saddens me to see them seek this way of approval. They want to feel desired yet are insulted when thought of as easy or a tramp. And in some twisted sense they turn that rude (but true) remark into a complienment because they wouldn't be saying that if they were not attracted, and on goes the cycle. Women are extremely pressured to be sexy, thin and perfect to recieve positive attention. They also know that to deservse respect they need to be intelligent, or at least have dignity and confidence, however the latter being easier said than done, it's easier for women to recieve attention over respect so that route seems more appealing.

I think that the way a woman dresses does affect how she is perceived; but I also believe that men are also subject to this as well.

Any person is immediately judged by what they wear in different contexts. In a professional setting, a man who comes to work in jeans, flip flops, and a ratty t-shirt is less respected than a man who at least wears a shirt and tie.

Such attitudes also apply to women; however, women are more likely to have their "virtue" judged by the clothes they wear more than men.

Many women, however, may choose to wear outlandish or revealing clothing as part of a rebellion to past articles that restricted women's movement or placed unrealistic demands on women's images, i.e., the girdle, tiny or high-heeled shoes, and layers of petticoat.

Modern women today would prefer clothes today that are easy to wear yet feminine. Some, however, believe that femininity lies in dressing in a more "sexy" manner.

Rather, it is the self-image of the woman that ultimately determines how they carry the clothing they wear, regardless of how revealing it is. Women with a strong, positive self-image can carry off any dress, whereas women who do not have it can be perceived as "trashy."

Developing positive self-images, however, is a more complicated matter beyond the scope of the question.

I sort of agree with you: there is a time and place for everything. Like you don't wear something low cut or skimpy to SCHOOL, do that for the nightlife please. Once I was at this school event and this woman from the alumni came in this low cut v-necked top that was cut to the top of her stomach and her breasts were going to pop out, it was very very wrong although she looked proud of it for some weird reason.

I find that it's unfair how women are more easily seen as sex objects than men... which is why women have to often draw a line between sexy and trashy and when is sexy appropriate.

MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO.
It's really that simple.
I am a feminist, Mom, etc and I do not support women dressing the way that most young women today do--IE belly shirts, breasts exposed, butt crack showing like a plumber, thong at the pants' waist, and butt cheek-showing
short-shorts.
However, I believe lots of parents failed to teach their daughters to respect themselves by wearing cute, fashionable, modest clothes, so girls go out and imitate the latest "Brittany,Christina,ET AL".
It's sad on so many levels, because plenty of young women don't even think about the 'come hither' image they project, and they end up abused as a result.
Good luck

You are right, specially at work, women should follow an appropriate dress code, it's not correct to dress like that in workplace.

There are places to wear what you want, some others, you need to respect.

I agree with you. These women are clearly not feminists and they are being coerced by society into believing that their bodies are what is most valued. One just needs to peruse the popular magazines to see what women on the covers are currently sporting. This is what is influencing the uninformed and the teenagers who are looking for direction. Feminism stresses that women do not have to dress provocatively for attention because they should be respected for other attributes such as logic, and intelligence.

There is nothing wrong when a male thinks in terms of what is expected by wearing a dress provokative. That is why provokative dresses are being worn. One should gladly accept the compliments thrown by males by way of gestures or angular angulrities.

I say if it's not for sale, don't put it in the window.

It's funny how women claim they are not objects (which is true) yet display themselves.

Then they either:

1) wonder why they were raped.
2) Press sexual assault charges and be happy because they like sex.
