the way i see it, we might be miss-interpreting it. no one really knows who design it wright? what if the way the mayan might be looking it as a cycle (a big cycle with 4 small cycle in it). we thought that the mayan see the world time in to 4 times. the 4th/last cycle ended in 2012. so we think that the mayan predict that the end of the world is in 2012. but what if the mayan think that when it comes to the last cycle, it cycles back to the beginning? just like january comes after december.
then come the question "why would they think that 'a year' in the calendar would take so long?"
then again, when they built the calendar, did they know that their civilization would come to an end so fast? i mean, they must be thinking that they were the greatest civ. that would never be destroyed..
anyway, nobody knows for sure why, but if your question referred to the end in 2012. i say no. no one can tells nor predicts the end...not event the mayan

Basicly the Mayan calender is the End of Time as we now it...
Not the end of time....It is because our solar system moves into a higher vibration of universal energy at this time. Picture
universal energy like waves low Hi low x low Hi low . This time is the x..or zero point as some call it. It is when our solar system passes over the Galatic Ecliptic Center into a higher vibration or dimension...

it doenst, it ends in 2011. they wrote it that way because that was as far into the future they saw. they predicted the end of the world to be in like.. the middle of 2011 (if i recall correctly)

murder, corruption, rape, incest, porn, I`m inclined to believe that the word is spiraling to its end, and the Mayans` may have the date right.
