Could it be a virus or is it the hardware? Hp had a recall on their batteries and mines were replaced but then this problem happens again...is it their battery? overheating? dust? HELPPP!!!

My laptop used to work when charged even without the battery but now it won't even power on. Should I invest in a new battery or take it to the shop. I'm afraid i might be overcharged at the shop and the problem still exist... :-(

Most notebooks now have safety features to protect the CPU,,and they shut off when the notebook gets very hot. Keep ur notebook raised a little bit from the desk surface so that the hot hair pulled by the fan has someplace to go. Also now u can buy what they call is a chill pad, these have 2/4 fans mounted on it u just keep the notebook on it while using. Most likely this is ur problem U can find chillpad at Officemax, Office depot

It is normal for some laptops to not power on when there is no battery installed. I was under the impression that they stopped doing it, but maybe not.
There is a possibility that a virus is causing the shut downs, but it is more likely that it is hardware related. Make sure you are not blocking any of the vents on the back of the laptop when you are using it. Otherwise it overheats and shuts down.
