If a dhcp client cannot locate a server, what do you think will be the ip address and subnet mask setting?

Well if the client cant locate the server it can not pull a DHCP address so it will default to the settings the clients operating system tells it too.

In Windows this is generally 169.xxx.xxx.xxx (I dont remember the exact numbers). The subnet will generaly be 255.255.255.0

You can check it using network status or the ipconfig /all run line command.

whatever ip address and subnet mask the DHCP server assigned..

start -> run -> cmd
ipconfig /all
